Evelyn Mercer

she/her · 22

Evie has survived moving place to place, trading anything she can for means of survival. But tired of just surviving, she wants somewhere permanent and place to build that sense of community she had back at the beginning of the fall. Those willing to cooperate, trade, keep their word, she wants to be involved with those sorts of people. Knowing that trust is harder than rebuilding a kitchen, she intends to do what she can to succeed.

APPEARANCE

Evie is 5'3" with an average/slim build with some muscle toning due to her traveling around for six months of walking, carrying supplies, and working. She's got fair skin with a little sun exposure and freckles, brown hair, hazel eyes and overall soft features. She has expressive eyes and a friendly smile, appearing approachable rather than intimidating.

TEMPERAMENT

Evie is naturally warm, approachable, and easy to talk to. She has always been the sort of person who can strike up a conversation with a stranger and somehow make it feel like they've known each other longer than they have. She remembers little details about people and genuinely enjoys hearing their stories. Even after Knox, that part of her hasn't disappeared. If anything, she's become more aware of how important small moments of kindness can be. She's friendly without being naive. Six months of scavenging and moving between survivors has taught her that not everyone is trustworthy, and she doesn't automatically assume the best of everyone anymore. She watches people carefully, especially when it comes to food, supplies, or weapons, but she rarely lets her suspicion show unless she has a reason to. She'd rather give someone a chance than assume they're dangerous. Evie has a stubborn streak that tends to come out when someone tells her something can't be done. She's not particularly fearless, but she's persistent, and once she decides something matters, getting her to give up can be difficult. She'll complain, swear, and probably question her own decision several times, but she'll usually keep going anyway. She's also a little impulsive. Evie has a tendency to help first and think about the consequences afterward, especially when someone is hungry, injured, or clearly in trouble. She knows she can't save everyone, but knowing that and actually walking away are two very different things. Sometimes her kindness gets her into situations she probably should have avoided. Her sense of humor has survived too. She uses sarcasm and jokes to lighten tense situations, and sometimes she'll make a completely inappropriate joke simply because she doesn't know what else to say. She isn't afraid to laugh at herself, and she finds comfort in ordinary conversations that have nothing to do with the dead or the end of the world. Despite her outgoing nature, Evie has become more private about her own feelings. She'll happily listen to someone else's problems for hours but tends to brush off questions about herself with a joke or a simple "I'm fine." She doesn't like people worrying about her, and she's gotten very good at pretending she isn't scared when she is. At her core, Evie is hopeful, but not blindly optimistic. She knows the world has changed and doesn't expect things to return to the way they were. What she believes in is something smaller: people helping each other, keeping their word, sharing what they can, and making whatever life they have left a little less miserable. She doesn't need to be the person in charge. She'd rather be the person everyone knows they can come sit beside.
